8. Make tough decisions
John Chen might not be as well-known as Steve Jobs, but he is a perfect example of a leader that makes tough decisions. Chen became known as the ‘turnaround guy’, after he turned failing Sybase into a multi-billion dollar company. Today, Chen is turning around the fortunes of Blackberry, formerly known as Research In Motion, and he’s doing this through making tough but necessary decisions. There have been layoffs, cut backs and a return to their classic business strategy. When times are tough, Chen makes the decisions nobody else wants to make – and he succeeds as a result.
Take a leaf from John Chen’s book and you’ll be able to improve profitability and create a team with whom you can work successfully and efficiently.
